A model constructed to demonstrate the proposed use of the storefront as the new home of the Crosstown Art Gallery and Studio.

Crosstown Vision for a New Home.

The model in the picture indicates my vision of what the renovated space would look like.

Because of the historical nature of the project, it came under close scrutiny by the City of Boston Inspectional services division and required a design review by the Boston Redevelopment Authority.

A positive review and acceptance of the design was obtained, before work began in August 1999.

Also pictured at the left are various architectural studies of window details, and column treatment.

The studies performed were very practical in nature, and on the left is one of the more unusual of scale models I built to demostrate how the woodwork would wrap around the existing steel columns on the building.

These tomato cans provided a perfect substitute for the columns, being precisely the same size. The model was then applied directly to the columns, where we negotiated the joinery and construction details with the carpenter for the project, Steve Maclean.
